Emergency brake: how Advisionr protects your account when ROAS drops

If the ROAS of a store account drops sharply or falls below break-even, Advisionr automatically blocks everything that would increase spend.

What you will know after this article
  • When the emergency brake turns on
  • Which actions are blocked
  • What can still go ahead

Why this matters

An account can perform worse for many reasons: season, competition, broken tracking or a change. During such a period you do not want more budget to flow in automatically.

The emergency brake looks at the ROAS of the whole account over the last two weeks and compares it with your break-even and with the weeks before.

When does the emergency brake turn on?

It turns on when the ROAS of the past 14 days is below your break-even, or below 75% of the 28 days before. Enough must have been spent to say this reliably. It only applies to store accounts; for leads, ROAS says little.

What is blocked?

Everything that could increase spend: budget up, shifting budget, a lower or no target ROAS, enabling a campaign or a new campaign. Rollbacks, your own manual choices and protective actions still go ahead.

Step by step

Follow this order to avoid drawing conclusions from incomplete data or mixing several changes at the same time.

  1. Enter your margin and target ROAS so the break-even is known.
  2. For a blocked action, read the explanation in the Action Center.
  3. Check Profit and changes for possible causes.

How to get the best result

Advisionr performs best when data, goals and responsibilities are clear. Use this working method to improve the quality of analyses and decisions.

  • Make sure your break-even is correct; the brake uses it.
  • When results drop, check tracking and stock first.
  • Let the brake do its job and do not raise budgets manually during a drop.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking Advisionr has stopped: protective actions keep running.
  • Confusing the brake with an outage in Google Ads.
Good to know: Protective actions, such as exclusions or a budget decrease, remain possible while the emergency brake is on.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brake turn off by itself?

Yes, as soon as ROAS is back above the limits.

Does this work for lead accounts?

No, ROAS is not a good measure there. Other safety rules remain active.
