Themed exclusion lists and testing exclusions

Advisionr excludes waste with shared lists per theme and occasionally re-tests old exclusions, so you do not miss revenue.

What you will know after this article
  • Which themed lists exist
  • When a word is added to a list
  • How an exclusion test works

Why this matters

Some searches never convert for an online store: jobs, repairs, manuals or second-hand. Those words belong in a fixed exclusion list.

Conversely, an old exclusion may now cost revenue. That is why Advisionr sometimes re-tests it in a controlled way.

Themed lists

A word is only added if it had enough clicks or cost in the past 60 days, never led to a conversion and does not appear in your keywords, product titles or brands. The list is called "Advisionr | Exclusions | theme" and is linked to your search and Shopping campaigns.

Testing exclusions

For campaigns with Smart Bidding and enough conversions, Advisionr can temporarily remove a few exclusions. After the test period it checks whether the words are now profitable. If not, the exclusion returns. The same word is then not re-tested for at least 60 days.

Step by step

Follow this order to avoid drawing conclusions from incomplete data or mixing several changes at the same time.

  1. Approve the proposal for a themed list in the Action Center.
  2. Check which words it contains.
  3. Approve an exclusion test when it is proposed.

How to get the best result

Advisionr performs best when data, goals and responsibilities are clear. Use this working method to improve the quality of analyses and decisions.

  • Check that a theme suits your offer; a repair service does not want to exclude repair.
  • Only use tests for campaigns with enough volume.

Common mistakes

  • Broadly excluding words like "free"; free shipping can attract buyers.
Good to know: Exclusions that would block a positive keyword are never proposed or tested.
